Google Sketchpad

Today I've been playing around with Sketchpad and I've got to say, it's a really cool tool.  Here's the next bench that I'm going to build.

Biscuit Joiner

Today I got a Porter-Cable 557 biscuit joiner for $40.  Brand new would have been over $200.

I've also finished my first bench.  I used threaded bolts as the support, it's sturdy but way to much trouble.  My next bench is going just have some simple rabbits and joints.

Keep building.

Saw this quote today, this is my theme for this blog

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."

My First Workbench

So I've found it's impossible to find kiln dried pine 4x4's in the Birmingham area.  I've called at least 10 different lumber yards and nobody has got them.  Frustrating.  I've also managed to mess up my first go at routing my dadoes and had to start from scratch.  A lack of a proper routing guide was my problem.  I really need a table saw with the dado blade, but that's not happening today.
